Today is my birthday and I want to share a message Today is my birthday and I want to share a message of HOPE.

Things are getting better across the board and across the globe.

Things we have learned in the past 12 months of being in a pandemic:

🔥 People can come together (and stay apart) to do AMAZING, HARD, and AMAZINGLY HARD things (like get a safe +effective vaccine created and into arms in under a year)

🔥 We can come together (despite all the divisions) to do what we need to (homes, schools, families, businesses, communities, countries) to get through really hard times

🔥 Schools can open safely in the midst of a global pandemic

🔥 Mental health can be discussed out loud, considered, addressed, and cared for without stigma (it's okay not to be okay @hopefortheday )

🔥 We have ANOTHER vaccine available - Johnson & Johnson (which is safe, effective, easier to store, and requires only one dose)

🔥 The vaccines we have (pfizer, moderna, J&J) are amazingly effective at preventing COVID, are safe, and have minimal side effects (and the trade-off if feel crummy for 48 hours is well worth it from personal risk and public health standpoint)

🔥 The pre-prints coming out this past week show reduction in TRANSMISSION in vaccinated people...meaning that in the *hopefully* near future we can definitively say that vaccinated people don't need to mask around each other (stay tuned and stay optimistic)

🔥 The light at the end of the tunnel is BRIGHT and getting closer every dang day

Have hope.

Share hope.
The milk has already been spilled. When you The milk has already been spilled.

When you see the cup tip and your eyes widen...take a deep breath and accept that it's happened.

After it spills...

⏸ PAUSE then

😳 BREATHE then

🤔 RESPOND.

Remember you drop things sometimes, too...and if someone were to yell at you for dropping something it'd make you feel small when you already feel bad for dropping it.

Not easy... it takes practice but you'll get many reps, I promise.

Try and do just a teeny bit better at the pause, breathe, respond.

This technique will serve you well as the slings and arrows come out of nowhere as your child grows...pause, breathe, respond to everything from spilt milk to a broken vase (do parents still decorate with vases?) to bad report card to an agnsty teen outburst.

Apparently, there is A LOT of tummy time guilt, sh Apparently, there is A LOT of tummy time guilt, shame, and confusion out there.

Please let this post be the reassurance you need that you aren't messing up your baby by not doing "enough" tummy time.

Tummy time is not that big of a deal.

One more time for the people in the back: Tummy time is not that big of a deal.

Yes, tummy time will help build your baby's head and neck strength.

But what if I told you that you are already doing it when you don't even realize it?!

Tummy does NOT have to be laying baby on the ground and watching the clock for x minutes as he screams and cries.

Tummy time is as simple as laying baby on your chest and letting him move his head around. That act alone builds up head and neck strength and gives him a little time off the back of his skull.

If your baby loves lying on the ground on his tummy, go for it. If he hates it, just do it on your chest and play with him. Both are equally effective!

Please don't let these questions linger or add to all the guilt, shame, and uncertainty of modern parenting.

If you're a little stressed out over all the "shoulds" and uncertainty of new parenting, you're not alone. I've put together an $8 course for expectant and new parents that walks through EVERYTHING new parents need to know to have confidence and peace in the first 2 months of parenting. It's called Brand New Baby and it answers all the questions I hear in the first 2 months. Its videos are organized week-by-week so you get the info you need right when you need it.
